My Great (times 10) grandfather's immigration in 1635
Wife: Anne White
Children: Ambrose Cobbs (b. around 1625, d. 1626; died before his family came to Jamestown), Robert Cobbs (b. around 1627, d. ????), Jane Cobbs (b. around 1630, d. 1634; died before her family came to Jamestown), Margaret Cobbs (b. 1631, d. ????), Ambrose Cobbs (b. 1635/36, d. ????; born after his family came to Jamestown), Thomas Cobbs (b. 1637, d. 1702; born after his family came to Jamestown)
In 1635, my great great great great great great great great great great grandfather came to Jamestown from
Early Jamestown
Kent, England.
Because of his "Headright" status, he recieved 50 acres of land for every person that he payed the transportation fees for. He paid for himself and he brought his wife, two children (the only two of four that were still living at the time), and three indentured servants. Ambrose Cobbs was entitled to 350 acres of land, but if he ever actually got it is unknown.
In Kent, England, Ambrose Cobbs had a wealthy and honored family. It is thought that he came to the "New World" to start a new life and make his own name/status for himself instead of just being respected and wealthy because of his relatives. (This is not known for sure but is assumed by family...).
Not Amrose Cobb's boat but very similar.
Cobbs Hall was sold after Ambrose Cobbs died because Thomas Cobbs (the youngest son) died unmarrried and found that he had no need to keep the huge piece of property.
Later, many of my family members moved to Georgia where they owned lots and lots of land until the Civil War.
